Robert Wootton, who served as Johnny Cash’s lead guitarist in the legendary Tennessee Three from 1968 until 1997, passed away on April 9th in Gallatin, TN. He was 75. Wootton joined the Tennessee Three following the death of CASH’s original lead guitar player, Luther Perkins, after whom Wootton had modeled his own guitar playing. He played with Cash on stage as well as in the studio, and he also appeared on ABC-TV’s “The Johnny Cash Show” weekly between 1969 and 1971.
